How to Apply for DTEF Sponsorship Online via tef.gov.bw
A step-by-step tutorial on navigating the official tef.gov.bw portal to create an account and submit your sponsorship application.
The days of standing in long queues with thick folders of paperwork at the DTEF offices are largely over. The Government of Botswana has digitized the sponsorship process, requiring all prospective students to apply online through the official portal. This guide will walk you through the process of applying on tef.gov.bw.
Step 1: Preparation
Before you even open the website, ensure you have gathered all necessary paperwork. Trying to find documents while applying can lead to the session timing out. Review our Required Documents Checklist. You must scan these documents clearly, as you will need to upload them in PDF or image format.
Step 2: Account Creation (Registration)
- Open your web browser and go to the official portal: https://tef.gov.bw.
- Look for the 'Register' or 'Create Account' button, typically located prominently on the homepage during the application cycle.
- You will need to provide your Omang (National ID) number, your surname, and a valid email address. (Note: It is highly recommended to use a professional-sounding email address that you check regularly, as this will be the primary method of communication).
- Create a strong password and complete the registration. You will likely receive a verification email to activate your account.
Step 3: Logging In and Filling the Form
Once your account is active, log in using your Omang and password.
- Navigate to the 'New Application' section.
- Personal Details: Fill in your contact information, address, and demographic details accurately.
- Academic Background: Enter your BGCSE (or equivalent) results. Be honest and accurate, as this data will be cross-referenced with the examination council.
- Institution and Program: Select the tertiary institution you have been admitted to and the specific program of study. Make sure the institution is on the Approved Institutions List.
Step 4: Uploading Documents
This is where many students make errors that lead to rejection. Carefully upload the scanned copies of your Omang, admission letter, and academic transcripts in the designated slots. Ensure the files are not too large and the text is clearly readable.
Step 5: Review and Submit
Before clicking the final submit button, review every single field. An incorrect Omang digit or a typo in your email address can cause massive delays. Once you are certain the information is correct, submit the application.
You should receive a confirmation email or an application reference number on the screen. Keep this number safe, as you will need it to check your application status later.
